Fantastic production quality levels, very impressive! Having listened to many of your interviews, I'm intrigued to see how this story will unfold into the untold - that which humanity is eager, possibly ready, to hear. You have the material, the ability and the storytelling skills - wahoo!
Thank you so much, Fredrik! This encouragement is incredibly kind. We really do have so much material that we can't wait to share with the world. Thank you for being here!
So incredibly well done and thought provoking - it's clear the amount of time, thought, and careful attention to each detail that was put into this. I love the defining qualities of a human - tool-making, language-using, and death-conscious. With the fanatical rise of AI it is fascinating to frame ourselves in this way because we are actively creating something that is aiming to be as sufficient and resourceful as the human mind, while removing the "death-consciousness". I can't wait to delve in further in the coming episodes!
Thank you so much, Anna! Thank you for your attention :) You're so right about AI being almost hardwired to be immortal. With humans already struggling so much with our own limits under the belief that we may one day become immortal, what are we bringing into the world when we create something that has no concept of mortality? What limits will we bust through then?
Jake and Maren, you've fostered a real talent for delivering beautiful work! I learned a lot from the video and have been enjoying your book recommendations!
The implicit (and sometimes explicit!) denial of our animal nature in culture and language, is tragic. It seems to me something within us, placed there and not fundamental, I hope, restrains that concept from integrating into our conscious perception. Fostering pride in our nature seems like a great first step.
Thanks again for the beautiful work and keep it up! I'm glad I found the Substack.
Thank you so much for your support, Nick! Our intention with this was definitely to "foster pride in our nature" - so grateful that message was conveyed. If we don't, I fear we'll never return to our state of being as a positive keystone species.
Alex and I just watched. It was compelling, beautifully shot & edited, loved all the visuals, and made me smile to see Maren so much :) Stimulated a good discussion afterward. I appreciate this perspective on humanity and can't wait to see how this film series builds! I just keep wanting more... but I will be patient.
Great film folks. Must have taken a lot of work to do.
My current theory is that ideas grow because the umwelt soil is ready for them. We don't just decide to live with a different story because the world isn't reflecting it. Colin Turnbull's story of how the Ik people "lost" their sense of egalitarianism when forced to live in a place with scarce resources springs to mind. Stories/myths choose us, they allow us to make sense of our percieved worlds.
P.S. I think these myths get baked into us as babies, and it takes exceptional circumstances to alter them. This might be why when this culture encountered egalitarian cultures it didn't become one as well. Against the flow of force, maybe. !kung don't make machine guns; if they did, they wouldn't be !kung. The cosmos has a peculiar sense of humour.
Excellent. Maybe it's just me, but I found the background music a bit too loud to the extent that it was occasionally swamping the commentary. A fantastic achievement.
Thank you for watching, and thank you for the feedback :) It's helpful to know because we're never quite sure how something like Substack might compress/alter the audio, so in the future we'll keep this in mind!
